About SAC

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Advisory Council (SAC)
is a non-profit 501c3 public benefit organization formed in 1984

What is the Sheriff’s Advisory Council (SAC)?

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Advisory Council (SAC) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public benefit organization, established in 1984 by a group of dedicated citizens concerned about community safety and law enforcement support.

Since its formation, the Council has grown to include more than 150 members, all working together to provide critical support to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and its auxiliary units. Through fundraising efforts, SAC helps cover the cost of essential equipment and specialized training not included in the department’s budget.

In particular, SAC supports auxiliary units such as S.E.A.T., Search & Rescue, and members of the Monterey County Peace Officer’s Association.

Over the years, the Council has successfully raised funds for items such as night vision binoculars, a SWAT team vehicle, and a hostage negotiator throw phone, among many others.

By enhancing the resources available to law enforcement, SAC has played a vital role in strengthening public safety and helping make Monterey County a safer place for everyone.

Why SAC?

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Advisory Council enables Monterey County law enforcement with the equipment and training needed, regardless of the Sheriff Department’s budget.

As a public agency, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has undergone continual budget cuts, making the activities of the Advisory Council increasingly important as community safety remains the highest priority despite what government funding may or may not provide.

Our Mission

SAC’s mission is to assist the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department in providing efficient, effective, and professional law enforcement to the citizens of this County.

This includes raising funds to make accessible materials, equipment, and training for use by the Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies that would not otherwise be available, and assisting the Sheriff’s Department and other Monterey County law enforcement agencies in increasing public awareness of programs and policies of these agencies.
